Ho Ho Holiday Heels

The holiday season is upon us and the parties are starting up.  From a work party, to house parties, to dinner parties, to New Year’s and everything in between, the question on most women’s mind is “What do I wear?”  Well, there are a plethora of commercials, magazines and blogs to help you decide what works and how to dress your body type.  Frankly, I don’t really care what I wear because as Facebook has shown me, people will take unflattering pictures of me and then post them online, no matter how much I suck in, or stand on a ¾ angle.  I swear I don’t look like a beach ball with arms in real life!  I also have a chin, don’t have size GGG breasts, or a lazy eye.  Just sayin’.  I am inevitably disappointed with how I look in most holiday pictures because in my head I’m a 5’10” supermodel from Victoria’s Secret.

So.  This year I am declaring an embargo on taking pictures form the knees up.  Let’s just focus on the shoes, shall we?  And this year I would love to be rocking one of these awesome styles.

Jewels and Feathers and Suede, Oh My!

Drinking Champagne While Wearing Champagne...If I Drank Champagne

I Think I'm On the Naughty List.

A Little Bit of Shine Goes Along Way.

Not Your Mama's Mrs. Claus! What would the holidays be without a pop of red? Plus, the height gets your lips closer to Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome. Pucker up!

These are just some of the wonderfully sparkly, bedazzled, and colorful shoes for the holiday.  Plus, they all go with black which is my holiday clothing colour of choice.  Hopefully all eyes (and lenses) will be drawn to my feet and I will be the first person tagging myself in holiday photo albums.

What shoes will you be wearing this holiday season?

Writer’s Workshop: Five Fall Fashion Faves

Mama Kat hosts Writing Prompts every Thursday over at her blog www.mamakatslosinit.com and this week one of the options was to write about your Top Ten Fall Fashion Favourites.  As much as I love the summer, fall is the season for fashion.  All of the fall shows are huge, there are more clothes, more layers…and more luxury.  So, these are the first 5 items on my Favourites list.

1.    Actually, this first item I already have in my closet.  Passed down to me from my mom, this adorable cape was my grandma’s.  It came to me by default because I am the only one in the family who even comes close to fitting her…busty proportions, shall we say.  Since it was given to me, capes have come in and out of fashion twice and I have worn it that many times, so I am looking to get a little more use out of it this time around.  Also, I’m hitting two notes, because plaid is very in this season (or so I’m told).

2.   As I have briefly mentioned before, I had to wear a uniform for school, so anything to do with kilts and nylons makes me break out into a skin rash.  Until recently, the thought of wearing loafers did as well until I saw this seasons adorable loafer heels that come in colours other than dark brown and can be worn without a shiny penny.

3.   Hal-le-lu-jah, the 70’s are making a comeback!  I can’t say I am particularly in love with any decade past the 60’s, but the wide leg pant is for me.  I am too hippy for the boot cut, and the skinny jeans are so last year, so it is nice that they are featuring a pant that doesn’t make me look like an apple on a stick.  (Coincidentally, candy apples are another thing I associate with fall, but I don’t want to look like one.)

4.  DVF is one of my favourite designers.  Her clothes are meant for girls of all shapes and sizes (all hail the wrap dress!) and are available in sizes 0 – 16.  Her Teresia silk dress is perfect for fall and is very versatile.  Good for work (layered with tights, black boots, and a cardigan) or a night on the town, the Teresia is a great staple piece for the wardrobe.  Plus, black is boring and sombre, my thought is to save it for winter.

5.   Let’s just say the most I have spent on the wedding so far has been in the form of bridal magazines.  Each season all the new ones come out and I snap them up with glee.  Oh, to have an unlimited budget and peacock feathers…but I digress.  There is one thing that most of the wedding gurus and designers agree on: Purple is the hottest colour for fall.  Pantone released their fall 2011 colour report and purple is on the list.  What makes Pantone an expert?  Well, they asked the fashion experts, of course!

Next week, I’ll tell have the next 5 on my list, so until then…

Did We Learn Nothing From Weinergate?

Rarely do I tackle such risqué topics as “sexting”, but it has recently become a hot button issue.  From politicians to teens, it seems as though everyone is getting in on the action.  Not only has it affected how we send naked pictures of ourselves, it has forever changed the dating scene.  Gone are the days when one would have to wait a week for the naked picture to be developed by some pervy guy looking at your darkroom; now sending your biggest piece of blackmail is instant.  Words, pictures, ringtones…the options are now endless; there are so many ways to embarrass yourself.  Rarely is sexting successful, though.  Inevitably the picture gets posted to FB, the text messages to TFLN, and the contents shared with all of your friends via Twitter.  More often than not the person on the receiving end is only willing to play along for so long before getting bored and thinking about ways to publically humiliate you.

Sexting's Poster Boy

Kricket (an intrepid dater in the city) has recently brought to my attention a major sexting faux pas.  After just two get-to-know-you dates with this one guy (we shall henceforth refer to him as Sexting Offender, or S.O. for short) he decided to drop some explicit instructions via text message.  For decency’s sake she wouldn’t repeat his salacious request, but when your friend won’t repeat something over coffee with the girls, you know it’s bad.

Can you imagine going on your third date and instead of wondering if you should finally  make a move to the bedroom, saying, “I would really like to suck your toes.  No?  Can we talk dirty about it?  How about you take a picture with your camera and when the picture develops in a week you can mail it to me?  Thanks.”    What makes it okay to make the request through cyber space?  Fantasizing about whatever you want is really your business, but why do so many assume that the person they are sharing with feel the same way?  Perhaps since you don’t have to look them in the face when you talk about your sinful business in detail, the benefits begin to outweigh the costs.  Con: the receiver of the sext may not feel the same way and not talk to you again, but after 2 dates, how invested are you anyway?  Pro: If they do feel the same way then you get to have your dirty little dream come true after 2 dates!

And what ever happened to sextiquette?   You cannot after two dates and a handful of emails submit your naughty request without so much as a, “hey I was thinking about u 2day…naked.”  Maybe, if you offered a bit more foreplay you would at least get a warmer reception; instead of an immediate “F off” it would be “Oh, I’m not in2 dat.  Srry!  GL wit dat tho :) :)

And if whatever you’re requesting is really what you are into, perhaps meeting people on a general dating site is the wrong way to go, S.O.  There is something for everyone on the internet, so there is probably a forum out there dedicated to people who share your proclivities.  At the very least you are guaranteed better success.  For example, if you just can’t get enough of those little piggies, I’m sure there’s a site for that.  And as Stephtastic pointed out, at the very least you can go to a shoe store.  You’ll know when they’re into it because you will be the only two people not trying on shoes.
