RONA MS Bike Tour Success

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who participated in Follow Me Friday and all those who found me through other means.  As you know I offered $1 for each new follower on my blog to help sponsor MPW in the RONA MS Bike Tour.  I raised $21 and contributed a total of $50, so thankyouthankyouthankyou

Thankfully the clouds, although ominous, didn’t actually release a torrent of rain, so Team Quest Cycle managed to stay dry through the event.  After an early start on both days (8am) both MPW and his team member, Chris managed to rock it out on their bikes.   MPW rode 85km (mostly uphill, he tells me) on the first day and about 77km on the second day (which was mercifully easier, he told me) for a total of 162km.  Chris did an extra 25 km on both days for a total of  212km!  Their team even got an award for Best Team Spirit!  Can I get a “wooohooo!”?  As I mentioned before  Chris is directly affected by MS.  His mother-in-law is afflicted with this disease and research is so important because it means they can try to find a cure.  It also means this little gal will have a healthier grandma in her life.

So again, thank you to all who followed me and left such great feedback, it is truly appreciated!  Come back tomorrow to hear about a Surprise 60th Birthday!

Follow One and Help Many

Welcome to my little corner of the blogosphere!   On Wednesday I posted about the RONA MS Bike Tour  that MPW is participating in this weekend.  I also threw out this challenge:

For every new follower between now and Friday I will donate $1*!   Yes, that’s right…you can donate someone else’s money, so there is no reason not to help out.  If you subscribed via email leave me a comment saying so (honesty policy reigns).

I have facebooked it, commented on many of blogs (in hopes that they return the favour and want to get involved, I didn’t actually say I was doing this), got people to twitter it and I have had a less than stellar response.  Now, I know I am not strictly a book blog, but I do post a lot of reviews and I am participating in quite a few challenges, including my own personal one.  I am attempting to read all the Governor General Literary Award winners for fiction since the prize began in 1936.  This award is the most prestigious book award in Canada (I have my own opinions about the Giller).

There are so many charities out there that are looking for support and I really believe that the MS Society can use yours.  Just by becoming a follower, you can help a cause that affects this little one here…

…whose grandmother has trouble even holding her because her Multiple Scelrosis has caused havoc on her body.  The morning of the baby shower for this Little One, she was rushed to the hospital and I don’t even want to think about how many more important events she could miss because of this.

After today I will go back to posting fun and book-appropriate materials, but since the bike ride is tomorrow, I want to make my contribution today.  And of course, if you follow me, I will follow you!

Posts to look forward to: A Surprise 60th birthday, Review: The Guinea Pig Diaries, My Weekend Alone, and Angus Update

Thanks for stopping by!

Follow Me for a Good Cause

So MPW (My Partner Will)  is into biking…and giving.  Yep, giving and biking, that’s MPW.  He’s on a biking team (consisting of him and 2 others) called Team Quest Cycle.  I would promote their web page here, but it still isn’t done  *ahem*.

What I will  do is talk a bit about this weekend coming up and how it is contributing to two good causes.  This weekend Team Quest Cycle is participating in the RONA MS Bike Tour.  The Bike Tour is a 2 day  event that involves biking (rain or shine) a total of 150 km  or 93.2 miles, camping out overnight and raising money to support a good cause.

Multiple sclerosis is a complex disease. While it is most often diagnosed in young adults, aged 15 to 40, we know that it affects children, some as young as two years old. The impact is felt by family, friends and by the community. MS is unpredictable, affecting vision, hearing, memory, balance and mobility. Its effects are physical, emotional, financial, and last a lifetime. There is no cure.

MS Society of Canada

Unfortunately, Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that we are all to familiar with.  In fact, a member of Team Quest Cycle is directly impacted.  His mother-in-law is greatly affected by this disease.  Some days are good and some are just painful.  Needless to say we would like for them all to be good (especially with her new grand-baby in the family).

Here is a picture of the little one whose grandmother is affected by this disease.  I would really appreciate it if you could click on the picture to donate some money to this ride. (The page opens directly to RONA’s secure donation site).

Yes, you read me right, there are two good causes here.  The first is raising money for MS Research and the second is my sanity (no donations are necessary, of course).  If MPW is riding a bike for 2 days that means I have Jenn-time for two days.  So, in an effort to get some karma-credits for the “me time” I am going to enjoy I am going to make a donation myself.

For every new follower between now and Friday I will donate $1*!   Yes, that’s right…you can donate someone else’s money, so there is no reason not to help out.  If you subscribed via email leave me a comment saying so (honesty policy reigns).

So, tell your friends, follow the link, follow me…every bit helps!
