Wicked was Wicked!

WICKED The Musical

I had received tickets to the play Wicked the Musical for my birthday some months ago.  This was to be a monumental event.  MPW had never been to a musical before, so I asked him to be my date.  This is also not the first time Wicked has come to Toronto, but each time before I had missed it for some reason or other.  Not this time!  This time it has been on my calendar for 6 months.  No way was I missing this.  Not because MPW is sick, not because we left the house late, not because of the weather, oh no!  I prevailed!

And it was soooo worth it!   Sixth row from the front, right in the middle!!!  The seats were spectacular and I got seated next to a couple who had obviously come from a date.  She smelled like beer and cigarettes…made me want to cuddle right into her.  Seriously.  I love the smell of beer-breath.  No idea why…but I digress.

The production value was out of this world and the characters played their parts to perfection.  My Mom has seasons tickets to the theater, but it is waaaaay up at the back on the balcony.  To get there you climb a set of stairs, and then another.  If there were an emergency, we’d be screwed.  However, if the play sucks, no big deal, the tickets were not expensive and if it was good you can pay more to get better seats and see it again.  Well, I am so glad I got these seats, because being able to see their faces?  Kind of rocked!

I must admit, it did make me long for my high school play days, but what a show!  The orchestra was on point, as were the main characters.  Galinda/Glinda (Chandra Lee Schwartz) was amazing  great  fabulous!  She played the blonde ditz to perfection.  She wasn’t annoying, but definitely got the point across.  And the actress who played Elphaba (Jackie Burns) sung her heart out.  What a powerful performance!  Standing ovations all around.

If you ever have a chance to see this show, do it!  It was unbelievable. Of course, I would have loved to have pictures, but obviously photography is not allowed.

So, there is just one thing left to say.  Thankyouthankyouthankyou, Mom for the awesome  birthday present!

Happiness is Shoes.

I got a package in the mail.  It had arrived within two days of my ordering it. Up until this point I was obsessively checking the order tracking page.

I eagerly opened it and my eyes rested on two of the most beautiful boxes I have ever seen.

Louboutins and DVFs (Diane von Furstenberg: the originator of the wrap dress.  Plus size women of the world, all hail the Queen!) of my very own!   I didn’t know which to look at first, but I decided to open the DVF box.

Oh how pretty!  And just perfect for spring!

And then…the moment I had dreamed about my whole shoe-lovin’ life.

A pair of my very own Louboutins that have never been worn on someone else’s feet!  I do have a pair in my possession, but they were bought second hand and most of the bottom was already scuffed off from someone else’s adventures.  But not these ones!   They are my very own to love and cherish and lick.   No wait, that’s not right.  I meant to love and cherish and wear to bed.  No wait…that’s not right, either.   Well I will definitely be wearing these babies all over because they are so awesome.

I was so excited I had to tell someone right that second.  So I called my Mom.  I preened, I sighed, I oohed, I justified, I fell in love.  And my Mom just sat there and said, “Congratulations!  Do you ever find it weird that you buy things that keep your feet on the ground and MPW buys things that keep his head in the clouds?”  I paused.  “Actually, no, Mom, but you make a good point.”  I buy shoes and MPW buys RC planes and helicopters.  I think it does an adequate job of summing us up though.  So on that enlightening note I said goodbye to my Mom and continued to jump up and down all around the apartment squealing at a level only Angus could hear (though not in the shoes…I’m not that coordinated).  And this is where I say goodbye to you so I can go and ogle some more, but not before leaving you a picture of my face when I opened the box.

Just kidding.   It was more like this…

Yeah, That Just Happened! (Thank Heavens and super shoe sales on the Internet!  You didn’t think I paid full price did you?  I have a mortgage to pay!)
