A Flabbergasting Television Buying Experience: Part 2

This is the second installment of our flabbergasting television buying experience.  Go here to read Part 1.

Last night we ended up at Future Shop again.

They do not have the substitute home theater system, probably won’t ever be getting it, and the substitute of the substitute is half the price of the original one. I feel I can no longer leave this up to MPW to negotiate with the sales person and ask to speak to the manager. (By the way I feel it is important to note that the sales rep we were speaking to was named Kenny. He was very helpful and nice.  More importantly he was very understanding).  We go to the customer service desk and I explain the situation. The girl says we need to speak to a manager. We wait until he’s available and explain our situation again.  He wants us to walk out of there happy. I look anything but happy. We say, we’ll take the substitution of the substitution if you throw in a Blue-ray. He says no. My eye twitches and I make a strangled sound in the back of my throat. He gives us his counter offer.  I look at MPW for confirmation that we are not getting hosed here.

*I must tell you at this point that as we were leaving I said to MPW we need to work on our nonverbal communication. I’m trying to get him to signal if the deal is good. He is looking at me like I have speakers. With love, but total incomprehension as to how that’s possible.*

The deal was good. So good that Chad (the manager who helped us) throws out the phrase “That Just Happened!”  It was at that moment I knew I had found a fast friend. “That’s the name of my blog!  Can you do the hand gesture?”  I asked.  He so could and he did it sowell. So kudos to you Chad, you are officially a good guy. Also, the way that Chad and Kenny (guy on the floor we spoke to at first) handled the situation totally redeemed our whole Future Shop experience. They were understanding, sympathetic, willing to work out a deal and totally ignored my death glare and unhappy sighs grunts.  We go off happily with our purchase and get in the car. As we’re pulling out of the parking lot we hear a radio advertisement. For the LG television and home theater system for $999.

So in honour of the great customer service job from Chad and the fact he knows what’s up…

Yeah, That Just Happened!

A Flabbergasting Television Buying Experience: Part 1

So, thanks to Future Shop I had a very grumpyirate MPW last Sunday.  They are advertising a $999 LG television and home theater system on sale from Saturday until today.  It is an awesome deal.  So awesome that they have had more demand than they forecasted. Now I understand all about forecasting, but when stores are saying they never had any in stock to begin with?  That becomes a major fail.  Oh wait now, they did but they sold out.  No, they have always had it on backorder.  They have 60 on the way.  And that is just some of the excuses we were given  about the TV.  Don’t even get me started with the home theater system!  We called a few different Future Shops and even had MPW’s Mom calling the ones in her area.  We got a different answer each time.

MPW and I decide that if you want the job done right you have to do it yourself. We bundle up and head out to the nearest Future Shop to get to the bottom of the matter.  Once there we meet a sales rep who walked away from us mid-conversation. We later find him helping another customer. I guess he couldn’t take the heat. The second guy we talked to told us (because they have failed so spectacularly to meet demand) Future Shop starts offering a substitution, which they also do not have, but the LG will come in at some point.  The sales rep had told us so many conflicting stories MPW (who is almost always calm and nice) raises his hands, raises his voice and walks away from the guy without saying “thanks”. I looked at the sales rep as if he had two heads and shook my finger at him. “Look what you’ve done!  I have to go home with that now!” (just kidding…I didn’t say that, but I thought it.)

So off we go to the next stop on our daily list of chores, but before we can get there I am asking MPW why he is being so mean to me. It’s not my fault Future Shop sucks the big one. He claims I was yelling at him. I was just trying to make him feel better (not by yelling I assure you). Long story short, he apologized. (Yeah, That Just Happened!).  When we got home MPW hopped back on the website. They had taken the LG picture down and were now advertising the LG package with the substitute television.  (Go here to see the advert now). Yeah right you’ll get some in, sales guy!

On Monday we went to a different Future Shop location. One that claims they have the substitution TV in stock. They do! (Yeay!)  But not the surround sound system. (Awwww). But they have some on order, they assure us, and it is coming by the end of the week (Yeay!).  Everything is good, we get home, MPW sets up the TV and I swear the remote still hasn’t left his hand.

Last night we ended up at Future Shop again.
