Outdoor Art Exhbitions and Roller Derby…And That Was Just Saturday!
Posted in Out and About, Toronto Roller Derby on 07/12/2010 08:00 am by JennWe had a busy, busy weekend here. On Saturday we went to the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and we had plans to go to the Yorkville Exotic Car Show, but ran out of time because…The Betties played their second game and we had to get there on time! I know how much you all love hearing about Stephtastic’s adventures in roller derby, so I am going to write about that in a bit. The one thing I will say is that MPW and I bought our first painting at the TOAE. One thing I love about this exhibition is that you are buying directly from the artist, so not only do they get all of the proceeds (galleries take 50%), but you get to hear about the painting and talk to the artist. Because the galleries take 50% art is usually twice the price in a gallery, so purchasing from exhibitions such as this save you money as well. The only problem was that it was hot and shade was at a premium. Being downtown Toronto in Nathan Phillips Square with no breeze and a butt-load of concrete is a form of torture that I am not sure why we subject ourselves to. I could feel the sweat pouring down my back. TMI? And it didn’t exactly cool down at…
The Smoke City Betties second game of the season vs. The Death Track Dolls!!!
- Warming Up
- The Half Time Show was a band called “The Weirdies”. It was fitting.
- Also in Half-Time was a demonstration by some Junior TORD’s. So cute!!
- Booooo Dolls!
- Yay Betties!
- The Final Score…Ouch!
- But We Had Signs, so That Counts for Something, Right?
There were lots of fans and the Betties did do much better than their first game, despite the score. Their next game isn’t until September, so there is lots more time to practice and for it to cool down a bit. It was so warm in there, I can’t even imagine trying to skate for as long as they did.
Tune in tomorrow to find outabout our special Sunday trip and Wednesday to find out how my second yoga class went.
Yeah, That Just Happened!
