A Flabbergasting Television Buying Experience: Part 2
Posted in Out and About and tagged with Future Shop, MPW, Television on 12/18/2009 08:00 am by JennThis is the second installment of our flabbergasting television buying experience. Go here to read Part 1.

Last night we ended up at Future Shop again.
They do not have the substitute home theater system, probably won’t ever be getting it, and the substitute of the substitute is half the price of the original one. I feel I can no longer leave this up to MPW to negotiate with the sales person and ask to speak to the manager. (By the way I feel it is important to note that the sales rep we were speaking to was named Kenny. He was very helpful and nice. More importantly he was very understanding). We go to the customer service desk and I explain the situation. The girl says we need to speak to a manager. We wait until he’s available and explain our situation again. He wants us to walk out of there happy. I look anything but happy. We say, we’ll take the substitution of the substitution if you throw in a Blue-ray. He says no. My eye twitches and I make a strangled sound in the back of my throat. He gives us his counter offer. I look at MPW for confirmation that we are not getting hosed here.
*I must tell you at this point that as we were leaving I said to MPW we need to work on our nonverbal communication. I’m trying to get him to signal if the deal is good. He is looking at me like I have speakers. With love, but total incomprehension as to how that’s possible.*
The deal was good. So good that Chad (the manager who helped us) throws out the phrase “That Just Happened!” It was at that moment I knew I had found a fast friend. “That’s the name of my blog! Can you do the hand gesture?” I asked. He so could and he did it sowell. So kudos to you Chad, you are officially a good guy. Also, the way that Chad and Kenny (guy on the floor we spoke to at first) handled the situation totally redeemed our whole Future Shop experience. They were understanding, sympathetic, willing to work out a deal and totally ignored my death glare and unhappy sighs grunts. We go off happily with our purchase and get in the car. As we’re pulling out of the parking lot we hear a radio advertisement. For the LG television and home theater system for $999.
So in honour of the great customer service job from Chad and the fact he knows what’s up…
Yeah, That Just Happened!

Why do those purchases always have to seem so painful? Those techie salesmen are ALMOST just as bad as car salesmen (which I happen to be dealing with right now)! I’m glad that you ultimately got what you set out for – or the substitute anyway – SCORE ONE FOR YOU!
And thanks for stopping my blog the other day… I sure do appreciate seeing new faces!

I love the whole nonverbal communication thing … I knew just what you were talking about. My husband and I have problems with this all the time … misinterpreting each other’s signals and all that.
